Bragging

Since this is my blog, I figure I can brag about my children as much as I want. I know they are not perfect, but I think they are pretty great kids anyway. It seems like they are always surprising me with the things they say and do. Emmitt seems to young to be walking, let alone walking backwards. He even talks now! He says "more," "mama," and last night he said "night." (Okay really they are ma, ma-ma, and na, but still) Is it just me, or is he rather smart?
Mason's vocabulary has also exploded. He still gets some words wrong, but now at least he communicates with us. Listening to him talk to his trucks can be quite amusing since most of his sentences are from movies. For example, he was looking for his shoes and in the perfect imitation of Frozone said, "Honey, Where's my tennis shoes?"
Heidi's vocabulary has also exploded. She has learned all sorts of words that she finds super funny and I, as an adult, do not. She is getting smarter by the day, which means she is constantly challenging me on why she should have to do something when she does not want to. Usually I have no excuse better than, "Because I said so." She is learning that for a mom this is a valid excuse, but for her it is not. :) I used to think babies were the hardest, but now I know that it is when they get older and start to think that things start getting complicated. They start thinking, and getting ideas and doing stuff on their own. I am lucky that she is still young enough that she thinks I am 'the best mom' and wants to be a mom too. Actually, "I was just trying to be a mom like you," is a pretty frequent excuse. Maybe I should take that as a hint. :)
We have been enjoying Boise. I think the first year you live somewhere is always exciting because everything is new. I loved herring season my first year in Sitka and by the fifth one I just thought it was a stinky time of year (with all the dead herring). This is our first spring here and we have been taking advantage of the weather. We have gotten together with lots of other moms and explored the foothills. Outside of town there aren't a lot of hikes close by, but right downtown there are several. Go figure. Our recent passion is sidewalk chalk and colored water. Life is simple for little kids.
