We went on a hike for my birthday yesterday. We went around a little lake right off the Boise greenbelt that I had rollarbladed by, but never gone around. The sun was warm, the grass was green and the water was frigid. The guide book claims that it is a great spot for fishing, wildlife viewing and swimming. The greenbelt side is paved, but the rest is just a flat dirt trail with little trails leading down to the lake. Sounds beautiful, right? It would have been. The only problem was that with the sun being so warm, the teenagers were out in force. The parking lot had teenagers sunbathing on the pavement which should have been a good clue as to what we were going to see. We passed groups of teenagers talking about free raves this weekend, reaking of booze and cigarettes. Many had more body art and metal than clothing on. We covered our kids ears and eyes and rushed through the more picturesque parts of the trail. On the greenbelt, the calibur of people increased dramatically and we let our kids play in the frigid water until they couldn't feel their toes anymore. Then we rushed back to the car. On the way out we passed an amazing park with all sorts of structures. "Wow, look at that playground," I said.
Jared looked at me with a surprised look, "You know that it is full of the same kinds of people we just passed?"
Oh, well. I am sure we can find another great spot to beat the summer heat.
