Tide Flats

We just had a primary activity at the Tide Flats. We had two families come, a long with the kids who just happen to have moms in the presidency. Not a stellar turn out, but not too much of a surprise. We still had a lot of fun. The whole activity was playing in the water and then making a craft and eating a snack. We found lots of crabs, a starfish, a sea urchin, a limpit, and one kid was even able to catch a little fish for our bucket. The crab were by far the most popular creature.
Now, I have no problem with little crabs---in the water. When a friend's husband walked up to me and implied he had a few crabs, I grabbed a little bucket for him. I was not prepared for the bucket to be filled! He must have been carrying 20 crabs. I couldn't hand back the bucket fast enough. Heidi, however, shares none of my squimishness. She happily held out her hand to hold one and let them crawl all over her knees. What really surprised me is that she would reach her hand into a bucket full of crabs and pick one up to look at all by herself. I cringed every time. She was really gentle and never squished one, for which I was very grateful. I learned a lot about Heidi that day.
We are slowly getting ready for the new baby. A lot will have to be finished when Jared is back on day shift and we can move the bedrooms around again. Heidi and I have been folding baby clothes and washing the toys and bed for the baby. The most important parts are taken care of--I have someone to watch Heidi while I am in the hospital and some clean clothes for the baby.
For anyone who wonders if police work in a small town can really be that bad they should look at Jared's legs. They are all stratched up from rolling around on the ground with people this last week. He tackled one guy who was trying to run away from the other officer. Then the next day he had to taze someone who was getting out of control. Good thing he has that belt full of tools. I am so glad we don't live in a big city where it is all part of a normal shift; I prefer it to be an abberation.
