October

Halloween: Lots of fun and lots of candy. Heidi spent the whole month wanting to be a ghost. (Actually from something she said the other night I don't even know if she knows what a ghost is because she said she wanted to be the holy ghost.) Anyway, I was nervous about the whole sheet over the head dragging on the ground so I convinced her to be a princess 10 minutes before we left. Only here do you find princesses (and tiggers and bumblebees) in extra-tuff rain boots. We went downtown to do our trick or treating and came home with a ton of candy. It was a lot of fun. They block off the roads so it is pretty safe.

I tried to get Heidi to help me carve a pumpkin (to cook a stew in). She did not like touching the goo and made the best face. Unfortunately, we couldn't capture it on film. So if you want to know what I want for Christmas. A nice camera that takes pictures when I press the button, not 3 seconds later and with a fast shutter speed so I stop getting blurs.

Earlier this month we went to the coast guard open house. It was actually the only Alaska Day activity we did this year. Who holds a parade on Sunday?
The kids got to climb in police cars, firetrucks, airplanes and helicopters. They loved "flying" the planes. We went in all at least twice. One pilot even scooted the chairs closer to the wheels so they could touch better. So much fun. Mason was in heaven.
